An operator of portable traffic cameras was attacked in Limassol

A 37-year-old operator of portable traffic cameras was attacked by six hooded men, while he was conducting traffic checks on behalf of the private company with which the Police cooperates. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday on the Kanto – Omodos road.

As stated by the head of the TAE Limassol, Lefteris Kyriakou, “around 2.20 in the morning, a 37-year-old employee of a private company who was involved in traffic control, while he was on the main road of a village in the district of Limassol, was attacked by six persons who had their faces covered hooded and holding offensive instruments.’

The perpetrators, after breaking the driver’s window and causing damage, threw stones at the 37-year-old, as a result of which he injured his head and left the scene with the vehicle.

The 37-year-old, Mr. Kyriakou added, “was taken to First Aid where he received treatment and was then dismissed, while the case is being investigated by the Pachnas police station.”

When asked whether the controls should have been carried out in the presence of two people, Mr. Kyriakou stated that “these are matters of the company which are being settled in cooperation with the Police Headquarters, but in this particular case, the 37-year-old was alone”.

He also said that the perpetrators appeared to be young people.
