The South African club, Sundowns, announced the closure of negotiations with Al-Ahly regarding the Uruguayan player Gaston Sereno.
Sereno was linked with a move to Al-Ahly during the last summer transfer period, but the material requests of the South African club hindered the deal.
The 29-year-old returned to enter Al-Ahly’s accounts again during the next winter Mercato period, but according to the South African club’s statement, matters between the two parties are far from the transfer fee.
Sundowns issued an official statement on its website regarding the deal, as follows: “Mamelodi Sundowns announces the end of negotiations with Al-Ahly regarding the Gaston Sereno deal, because the clubs are far from each other regarding the player’s transfer fee.”
The statement added: “The good relations between Al-Ahly Club President Mahmoud Al-Khatib and Mamelodi Sundowns President Patrice Mutsibi will continue, but there is no point or purpose in continuing discussions about Gaston. Sereno.”
He continued: “Sundowns will continue to release its players to European, African and other countries as it has already done, but the transfer fees must be appropriate because Sundowns is paying large sums of money to acquire the players.”
“Serino must now focus on his future at the club,” he said.
