The presentation of the work “From West to East: A Classic Odyssey”, led by Tan Dun, the award-winning composer of the Academy Award and the Grammy Award, recently witnessed at the Emirates Palace, a distinguished presence of a group of the most prominent musicians and major international artists, within the framework of the activities of the twentieth session of the Abu Dhabi Festival. , which is being held under the honorary patronage of His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the honorary and founding sponsor of the Abu Dhabi Festival, under the slogan “The Will to Develop, the Yearning for Leadership,” and its activities will continue until March 20.
The creative composer led the orchestra of the Théâtre Comunale di Modena Pavarotti-Frini, and accompanied world-famous Chinese cellist Yan Wang on an unforgettable musical journey featuring an iconic collection of classics by Mozart, Tchaikovsky and Mussorgsky, followed by the UAE premiere of his original piece, the Pippa Concerto.
Hoda Ibrahim Al-Khamis, founder of the Abu Dhabi Group for Culture and Arts, founder and artistic director of the Abu Dhabi Festival, emphasized the role that music plays in bringing people together and unifying their aesthetic vision of life and human existence, saying: “Since its establishment in 2004, the Abu Dhabi Festival has contributed to enriching the vision. Tan Dun is one of the leading performers of international classical compositions, and he rose to fame in Hollywood in 2001 after winning an Oscar for his excellence in composing the music for the movie “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” directed by Ang Lee.
