The last war year brought thousands of refugees to Latvia due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Currently, almost 36,000 Ukrainians live in Latvia, most of them are of working age. The State Revenue Service summarizes that 7,700 people are employed among them. Although various conditions for employers and employees have been eased over time, there are still problems in the employment of Ukrainian refugees.
War refugees in Latvia mostly perform lower-skilled jobs in such professions as helper, cleaner, salesperson, cook, construction worker and truck driver.
