As part of a mission carried out, Monday November 27, 2023, agents of the DGR of Oyem carried out a targeted raid in a district of the city, leading to the arrest of an individual at the beginning of the afternoon . This intervention led to the seizure of two smoothed ivory points.
This new arrest was possible thanks to collaboration between the Water and Forestry services, in particular the Directorate for the fight against poaching and the Provincial Directorate for water and forests of Woleu-Ntem, as well as the DGR, supported by the NGO Conservation Justice. Currently in police custody, the individual with the initials NF is a 27-year-old carpenter of Cameroonian nationality.
In accordance with article 390 of the Penal Code, the alleged trafficker risks up to 10 years of imprisonment in addition to fines and damages in accordance with the legislation in force in our country. This initiative demonstrates the resolute commitment of local authorities and partner organizations in the fight against wildlife trafficking, with a view to preserving biodiversity and enforcing the law.
