an Italian referee for Chelsea-Real Madrid

An Italian referee has been chosen by UEFA to lead the Champions League semi-final second leg between Chelsea and Real Madrid on Wednesday at Stamford Bridge.

Daniel Orsato will lead both teams. The Transalpin will be supported in its task by compatriots Alessandro Giallatini, Fabiano Preti and Davide Massa (4th referee).

The 45-year-old will referee his fifth C1 match since the start of this edition. He had refereed Olympique de Marseille against Olympiakos (0-1), in the group stage, and Paris Saint-Germain on two occasions: against Manchester United in the group stage (3-1) and during the quarter second leg against Bayern Munich (0-1).

As a reminder, the semi-final return between Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, scheduled for Tuesday at the Etihad Stadium, will be led by the Dutchman Björn Kuipers.
