The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, through the General Directorate of Public Health, has reported that the protocol established by coronavirus has been activated after confirming that an Italian citizen has given a positive first in the tests for coronavirus carried out this afternoon at the Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de La Candelaria. The Italian citizen comes from Lombardy, the region of Italy where the most cases of Covid-19 have been located.
Activation of this protocol establishes the obligation to carry out a second test at the National Microbiology Center of the Carlos III Health Institute. Citizens are isolated and under sanitary control. In coordination with the Ministry of Health, in the Canary Islands the same protocol has been activated that has been implemented in the face of other suspected cases in other parts of Spain.
Toll-free telephone number
The Ministry of Health has activated a free telephone line, 900 112 061, from which a team of Nursing will attend to requests for information from citizens on prevention measures, possibilities of contagion and false concepts related to the virus. This case would be the third within the Spanish borders. The other two diagnosed cases have already been discharged.
Seven dead in Italy
The confirmation of this third case in Spain coincides with the advance of the contagion of the coronavirus in Italy, where the Italian authorities have already confirmed seven deceased and more than 230 cases of contagion.
