His body was found in the river on Monday evening, according to what the police revealed to AFP, confirming the information reported by the local newspaper “Le Progres”.
The 38-year-old man could not be revived, despite the efforts of ambulance personnel who took him to the West Bank, according to the same source.
“The police are attacking people, and we’ve lost a lot of boys and girls, and something needs to be done,” the man said in a calm voice, in a video clip he posted on several social media sites before taking action. And he added: “I have decided to commit suicide in the Rhone River, in a challenge that shows that we, the Iranian people, are very tired of this situation.”
“By the time you see this tape, I’ll be dead,” he added, before calling on the Iranian people for support in their fight against “a very violent police and government.”
Calls were made on social media for a demonstration in central Lyon on Tuesday evening in his memory.
