The Minister of Health and Social Protection, Guillermo Alfonso Jaramillo, and former Minister Carolina Corcho will face an investigation in the Attorney General’s Office because they allegedly failed to fulfill their duties in relation to the shortage of medicines in Colombia during this year.

This measure arises in response to accusations of alleged failure to fulfill their duties, which would have had serious consequences for the health of thousands of citizens, including the interruption of treatments and the postponement of medical procedures.

The Disciplinary Investigation Chamber will be in charge of investigating the causes that could have led to an unjustified delay by these officials in making decisions to address the critical situation of drug shortages in the country. The delay in the government response has generated concern about the health and well-being of Colombians.

The investigation file also includes Claudia Marcela Vargas Peláez, director of Medicines and Health Technology, since since July of this year the delays in the process of issuing health records for the production or marketing of medicines that were in missing or at risk of being missing.

The investigation process will be key to clarifying what happened and taking appropriate measures if irregularities are confirmed in the management of the Ministers of Health and others involved.
