Three questions to…
Maxime Kieffer,
responsable commercial et marketing Sewerin
#1. Sewerin is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. How is the group approaching the future?
Sewerin is a German family company – whose fourth generation is now at the helm – which has 350 employees worldwide. In France, near Strasbourg, there are a little more than 20 of us. We offer equipment to detect and locate drinking water and gas leaks for network managers, local authorities, service providers, etc.
We are also strengthening our offer of biogas analysis equipment for monitoring the bio-methanization process and the safety of operators. Emerging applications include our hydrogen microleak detectors, via specific ultrasensitive sensors. We are ready for the rise of this sector.
#2. Do the frequency and duration of droughts today have an impact on Sewerin’s activity?
We have more demands since in view of droughts, it becomes even more essential than before to take care of water resources. This year we saw municipalities deprived of water. The search for leaks appears very important; managers cannot afford to lose this precious resource.
Leaks are around 20% on drinking water distribution networks. Progress has been made: around ten years ago, these losses represented more than 25%. It is still possible to do much better to both preserve water and energy resources. Remember that the water is pumped, then treated, before arriving in the networks. This requires energy.
#3. What about the collection of used oil containers?
Our credo is to offer very good quality equipment with a long lifespan, which is designed to last at least ten years, but also to be repairable. Our products are easy to use and set up and aim to have as little impact as possible.
Our in-house technical department ensures the maintenance of all devices and our purchases are designed to be able to repair a product well after the end of its production, for example. This sustainability DNA is linked to our mindset. Sewerin is a family business, all decisions are made for the long term. This is also felt by employees, since our turnover rate is very low.
Sewerin has over 95 years of experience in the development of measuring devices for the gas and water distribution sector. The innovative, premium quality devices are designed and manufactured in Gütersloh, Germany. Sewerin also provides services: device maintenance, on-site measurements, troubleshooting, equipment training, etc.
