The Latvian Investment and Development Agency (LIAA) in cooperation with the Riga International Film Festival (Riga IFF) and the telecommunications company Tet is launching a new annual film industry event – the Magnetic Series. It will be a multi-series film project development and networking event dedicated to the Baltic Sea region and the Nordic countries, LIAA representatives informed.
The opening event will take place on October 16, and industry professionals will discuss topics related to the production of multi-series films. Given the situation of Covid-19 in the country, this event will take place both online and in person, and will serve as an introduction to the annual Magnetic Series event, which will start in full in 2021.
It is expected that participants and invited guests will be able to get acquainted and learn more about the new multi-series film projects looking for international co-production and funding partners in the Baltic Sea region and the Nordic countries – Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Russia, Poland, Germany, Finland, Sweden, Norway. , Denmark, Iceland and Greenland.
This year, everyone will be able to follow the program of the event – the conference will be streamed online and will be available Riga IFF website, as well as RIGA IFF Facebook page, as well as LIAA “Youtube” and “Facebook” accounts.
The program of the event this year includes two discussion panels that will focus on the production of high-quality series – the discussion panels “Future Perspective” and “Distribution of non-English dramas” will address the issues of such projects in the region, sales and distribution trends and international potential.
The program of the event will also look at two specific examples – screenwriter and director Christian Ditter (author of films such as “Love, Rosie”, “How to be single”) will share his experience in creating the German series “Biohackers”, while Valery Fedorovich and Eugene Nikicov will present with its experience in creating the Russian series “Dead Mountain – Dyatlov Pass incident” – the premiere of the series is expected this autumn.
The event will also be attended by such internationally influential and well-known representatives of the film industry as Julie Fidele (director of the Berlinale Series), Ani Korpela (content manager of the leading Finnish telecommunications company Elisa) Aleksandrs Rénbergs (producer of the films “Like Like”, “King of Devil’s Island”) , Artyam Vasilyev (producer of Humorist and Dovlatov), Christian Wesper (President of Global Drama at Fremantle, creator of We Are Who We Are, American Gods, and The Salisbury Poisonings), Xavier Rashid (film sales agent, Film Republic) and others.

The Magnetic Series 2021 is scheduled for October 2021 as a two-day industry event and will be designed as an international industry meeting place for producers, distributors, potential buyers and partners. The two-day event will select six to eight multi-series drama projects according to pre-defined criteria. Participants will be given the opportunity to spend three days in Riga and present their projects to invited professionals, as well as the opportunity to meet potential partners.
