An intelligent Control Room for security

Imagine a room in which the security of a place or city is monitored in real time, 24 hours a day, thanks to the support of cutting-edge technologies. This is the ultimate goal of progetto “Security Control Center for Smart District”a Control Room that implements and integrates technologies based on artificial intelligence and latest generation algorithms. To design it, within the context Federated Innovation @MINDthey are Elettronica, Forte Secur Group, Sicuritalia, who are developing a proof of concept within MIND Village to guarantee a greater level of safety: “MIND Milano Innovation District – he comments Renato Ricciardimanaging director Engineering & systems of Sicuritalia – is the ideal urban district to build the city of the future and experiment with innovations like this by communicating and collaborating with other companies, universities and research centres”.

This is how the three companies are working together to find a balance between effectiveness, safety and respect for people’s privacy: “In the Control Room we want to support the supervision of the operators, people dedicated to supervising what is happening, with intelligent technologies, sensors , artificial intelligence – he says Goffredo Foglia, head of Research and Innovation Department of Elettronica Group – The bottleneck lies in controlling such a large amount of information: so many monitors, so much data. For this reason we have started to automate some checks as much as possible to understand what type of activities are being carried out with a focus on anomalous situations: acts of vandalism or people who feel ill”.

The system, based on algorithms capable of anonymize faces and license plates, detects areas crowded with people, anomalous situations, and is able, for example, to check whether workers are wearing safety devices such as helmets or to locate abandoned luggage. “At a later time – adds Foglia – we will integrate others augmented reality functionsfor example we could equip control room operators with smart glasses that send them information and warnings.”

Today the project is in the testing phase: “We are working with Lendlease to have a validated proof of concept by the end of 2024 – he concludes – then we will test it for a year within MIND to mature the technology and make it usable for operators, after which we will be able to start offering them externally too”.
