An installation with 40 silhouettes of pilgrims stands in front of the Cathedral | Radio Castilla | Present

A total of 40 silhouettes of pilgrims by as many Burgos artists, planted in the Plaza del Rey San Fernando, indicate the way to Compostela, in an artistic installation that once again merges the Jacobean route with the VIII Centenary of the Cathedral of Burgos.

On lacquered iron profiles with the common figure of a pilgrim, two meters high by one wide, made by Cristino Diez, and arranged like a scallop shell, they have captured their aesthetic concern 41 artists.

A dozen of them are students of the School of Art and Superior of Design, who have used all kinds of materials, plastic techniques and themes, from the medieval imaginary, the LGTBI flag, the verses of Machado to decorate the silhouette, or leaving a space for the pilgrim to leave their signature.

Number 40 is the work of Cristino Díez himself and can be seen a little later, in front of the Visitor Reception Center.

The vice president of the VIII Centenario Foundation, Antonio Miguel Mendez Pozo, has thanked the selfless participation of all the artists and the economic collaboration of Caja Viva Caja Rural which has contributed 20,000 euros for the project. Méndez Pozo has highlighted the purpose of reflecting the plurality of the universe of people who make pilgrimage in the multicolored silhouettes, and expresses the hope that this installation will contribute to more visitors passing through Burgos.

The sculptures will remain for a few weeks in the Plaza del Rey San Fernando before being transferred to their final location along the Camino de Santiago as it passes through the city, from Castañares to the Pilar neighborhood.
