An Instagram post with political vibes?

There is currently wild speculation on the Internet: Do the shadows of one of Taylor Swift’s backup dancers point to US Vice President Kamala Harris? The pop icon’s loyal fan base has made it their mission to decipher every little detail in her social media posts, and so the rumor spread rapidly. A recently posted photo from Swift’s Eras tour of Europe sparked the discussion.

So far, Swift has not expressed explicit support for a particular presidential ticket in the United States. However, her political preferences are well known, especially since her clear support for Joseph R. Biden Jr. in October 2020. The photo in question was taken during a concert in Warsaw and shows her dancers in pantsuits that are visually reminiscent of Kamala Harris.

Although there are also opposing opinions, some fans are convinced that the post could contain a coded message. A progressive part of her fan base is hoping for a clear political statement from the singer, who recently triggered 35,000 new voter registrations with an Instagram post. A spokesperson for Swift was not immediately able to comment on the fandom’s reaction.

Swift’s political leanings and her large media presence, including during NFL broadcasts last season, have angered Trump supporters, with some even suspecting conspiracies that her presence was intended to bolster Joe Biden’s re-election, even though Kamala Harris recently named Governor Tim Walz of Minnesota as her running mate.

The discussion about Swift’s role in politics was heated up again. Fox News host Harris Faulkner said on television: “When we as consumers spend so much money, we don’t need politics handed to us on a silver platter.” Swift’s most recent political comments did not concern specific candidates, but called for active voter participation in general.

Swift’s Eras Tour toured Europe this summer, but three shows in Vienna had to be canceled following the arrest of two men who were planning a terrorist attack. Austrian authorities said one of the suspects was targeting Swift’s concerts.
