Freshly returned from New York, where she attended the spectacular boxing gala presented Saturday at Madison Square Garden, Montrealer of French origin Caroline Veyre is pumped up to take the next step in her career.
Aged 34, Veyre will also have a major challenge, on March 16 at Place Bell in the undercard of the fight scheduled between Jean Pascal and the German Michael Eifert. She has an appointment with the dangerous Emma Gongora.
“I have a strong opponent for this fight, and it could take me to another level, admitted Veyre, Monday, by videoconference. I know I have the experience and the talent to beat that girl. I want to progress quickly in my career and be ready the day I have a world title fight.
After a prolific career at the amateur level, Veyre (2-0, 0 K.-O.) has only two fights under his belt in professional boxing. However, she is already dreaming of major events on the international scene. Promoter Yvon Michel himself hopes to bring him into world championship fights in 2024.
“I was impressed by the strike force of Alycia Baumgardner, notably remembered Veyre from her stay in New York”, where the American champion won by unanimous decision in front of a courageous opponent, Elhem Mekhaled. “And in the final, it was quite a fight won by Amanda Serrano.”
“While attending the party, I saw what the intensity of a 10-round world title fight was like,” Veyre said. That’s what awaits me when I get there.”
“An extremely decisive semi-final”
For the moment, the Montrealer will first have to defeat Gongora (5-2, 0 K.-O.). The latter has already mystified some boxing fans in Quebec by beating Quebecer Martine Vallières-Bisson in September.
Also on the March 16 gala undercard: Mathieu Germain (21-2-1, 9 KOs) will face Steven Wilcox (24-3-1, 7 KOs) in the semi-finals , just before the expected duel between Pascal and Eifert.
“It’s an extremely decisive semi-final for both boxers,” noted Michel, believing that the fight remained risky for Germain. “They will have a lot of visibility.”
