Despite the fact that making ice cream is simple, it is far from uniform – this delicacy is available in a wide variety of forms. Plum beer or gelato? Mochi or ice cream balls? The choice can sometimes be even too wide, so we offer a brief insight into the diverse world of ice cream.

• Plombira ice cream. A classic! Everyone has managed to taste this ice cream at least once in their life. It is simple, but no less delicious – it is mostly made from eggs, sweet cream, sugar and condensed milk with sugar, but recipes can vary. It can be recognized by its bright white color. Plumber’s ice cream is also the most popular among “Narvesen” customers. As Ilze Dumceva, Director of the Marketing and Communication Department of “Narvesen”, states: “Among our customers, the most purchased product in the ice cream category every year is exactly plombir, which is ahead of chocolate and mango ice creams in the fierce competition. We can conclude that people appreciate proven values.”
• Creamy ice cream. This ice cream is very similar to plombir, but unlike plombir, which is only white and tastes uniform, it is distinguished by the fact that it can be made in different colors and flavors. It inherits the creamy consistency from the plombire, but as the name suggests, it also has a higher proportion of sweet cream.
• Sorbert. When ice cream made from milk or cream is not in the mood, a refreshing and summery sorbet is a great alternative. It is mostly made from berries or fruit, water, sugar and eggs, but as with all ice creams, recipes can vary. It has a more sour or sweet taste depending on the berries and fruits chosen, and it has a more icy consistency because water is used instead of cream and milk.
• Juice ice cream. A real summer treat! If it’s a particularly hot day and you want to taste something refreshing and sweet, then juice ice cream is a great choice. These are the simplest of all mentioned ice creams – fruit or berry juice is poured into special molds and frozen. They are especially popular among children because they are easy to eat, available in bright colors and very sweet. Narvesen’s customer habits show that juice ice creams are almost as popular as their more classic counterparts. Frozen orange and apple juices are particularly popular,” says I. Dumceva.
• Ball ice cream. This unique frozen delicacy is immediately recognizable – it is not produced in a single mass of ice cream, but in very small, frozen balls. It is mostly made from milk and cream, as well as various berries and fruits.
• Yogurt ice cream. If you are a lover of yogurt and ice cream, then this ice cream is made for you – it stands out with a great taste, which can be described as a combination of sweet cream and yogurt. It is made in a similar way to cream and plum ice cream, but the main difference is the added yogurt.
• Cottage cheese ice cream. If you like curd treats, then this ice cream will not disappoint you. It has both the unique taste of sweet curd and the creaminess of ice cream. This ice cream is also prepared similarly to cream and plum ice creams, but in addition to the classic ice cream ingredients – eggs, cream and milk – sweet curd is added.
• Mochi ice cream. The origins of this exotic frozen treat can be traced back to faraway Japan. It is a small frozen rice dough patty filled with delicious juice ice cream. Its name is very direct – the Japanese word “mochi” means “Japanese rice cake” in Latvian. In short – if you want to taste something unusual, then “mochi” is an excellent choice.
• Ice cream. An absolutely delicious dessert from Italy – its name is derived from the Latin word “gelatus”, which means “frozen”. This traditional Italian dessert is perfect for foodies who like a slightly healthier frozen treat – it’s lower in fat because it uses less cream and is largely egg-free. Although ice cream is visually similar to “classic” ice cream, however, there are differences between the two desserts – ice cream unlike many store-bought ice creams, it’s usually free of artificial additives and flavorings and contains twice as much air as ice cream, which explains its extra-creamy and soft texture.
