An influential American investor has passed away at a respectable age

American billionaire and investor Warren Buffett’s partner Charlie Munger, who helped Buffett build Berkshire Hathaway into an investment giant, has died at the age of 99.

Manger passed away on Tuesday at a hospital in California, Berkshire Hathaway announced.

“Berkshire Hathaway would not be what it is today without Charlie’s inspiration, wisdom and involvement,” Buffett, 93, said.

Manger helped lead Berkshire Hathaway for more than 50 years and was longtime vice chairman of the company’s board.

He liked to stay in the shadows and let Buffett be the face of Berkshire Hathaway, often trying not to publicly highlight his contribution to the company’s remarkable success.

Manger and Buffett started buying “Berkshire Hathaway” shares in 1962 for seven and eight dollars per share, but they took control of the company in 1965. Over the years, they built Berkshire Hathaway into the conglomerate it is today by using the assets of its parent companies to buy shares in other companies.
