Riyadh: A Pakistani driver has been jailed for four years for stealing a Saudi woman’s mobile phone and trying to sexually harass her during a car ride. The Riyadh Criminal Court also ordered a fine of 15,000 Riyals from the accused named Imtiaz.
The incident happened while he was being taken to work by car. During the journey, the driver stole the 40-year-old’s phone. The woman asked to return the phone through WhatsApp but it was not given. The demand of the accused was to give in to sexual intercourse. The accused also sent indecent photos by texting him that he would pay for having an affair.
After this, the woman complained to the police. The accused argued that the phone was not stolen and the woman had left it in the car. The accused also testified that when the complainant called to ask for the return of the mobile phone, he only replied that he was away. It was also argued that the obscene photos went to the woman’s phone by mistake. Imtiaz stated that he was the one who drives the complainant to and from work for 60 riyals daily and has been working in Saudi for 14 years.
During the trial, it was revealed that the accused had stolen the woman’s phone. The court found that the phone was held and a bargain was made to get them to agree to the affair.
