“An incredible solidarity movement”: after the fire, a high school student from Aubervilliers receives help from his comrades

It was around four o’clock in the morning on June 9 when a fire, the origin of which remains to be determined, spread to the home of a family in La Courneuve. No injuries are reported. The material damage, on the other hand, is dramatic.

The house, now unlivable, was completely burned from the inside, causing its occupants to be urgently relocated to public housing. This family is that of Azim, a young high school student in his final year at Le Corbusier high school in Aubervilliers.

The 18-year-old boy lost everything in history. All of his personal effects, his clothes, his computer, his books, his textbooks and his crockery, were calcined. Returning to his school a few days later, the young man was surprised to learn that several thousand euros had been collected by his comrades to help him.

Since the fire, the students of Le Corbusier high school, in association with the teaching staff, have set up a kitty to allow Azim to buy back his lost belongings.

Azim is ’embarrassed to receive so much money from strangers, but very touched’

“Basically, we just wanted the students in our class to deposit ten euros in a box, explains Kamilia, representative of the class of Azim at the origin of the initiative. Realizing that other people outside of our class wanted to participate, we opened an online kitty, and we started sharing it on social networks. It took on incredible proportions. » In less than a week, nearly 2,000 euros were collected on the PayPal platform.

First within the school and then in increasingly large outside circles, the kitty was widely relayed on social networks, in particular on the Snapchat application. The high school students also entered into contact with the parents of the establishment’s students, always with a view to sharing the initiative as much as possible. According to his comrades, Azim is “embarrassed to receive so much money from strangers, but very touched”.

This outpouring of solidarity does not stop at mere financial support. Many people have volunteered to donate dishes and furniture. A large clothing drive was organized by the school, which was ultimately compromised due to the health situation.

“In fact, we all put ourselves in his place, and we understood that it could happen to everyone, continues Kamilia. Azim is an 18-year-old boy, in his final year, who has things he cares about, he’s like all of us. And to know that it happened to him all of a sudden, it shocked us. It is an absolutely incredible united movement. »
