Riga, July 15, LETA. The number of nights spent in Latvian hotels and other tourist accommodation establishments in the first five months of this year has decreased by 46.7% compared to the corresponding period of 2020, amounting to 504,900, according to the Central Statistical Bureau.

Among them, the number of nights spent by foreign guests in Latvian hotels and other tourist accommodation in the first five months of 2021 decreased by 81.2% compared to the corresponding period of 2020 and was 111,400, but the number of nights spent by local residents in Latvian hotels and other tourist accommodation increased by 11.3% and amounted to 393,500.

In total, 255,800 guests were served in Latvian tourist accommodation establishments in the first five months of this year, which is by 42.2% less than in the first five months of 2020, including a decrease of 83% in foreign guests and 44,800, but the number of local residents increased by 18%, reaching 211,000.

In May, guests spent a total of 140.6 thousand nights in tourist accommodation, which is 81.4% more than in May 2020, including foreign guests spent 37.1 thousand nights in tourist accommodation, which is 29.8% more than in May last year. but the local population – 103.5 thousand nights, which is an increase of 2.1 times.

In May this year, a total of 72.4 thousand guests were served in Latvian tourist accommodation, which is 2.4 times more than in May 2020, including 13.7 thousand foreign guests, which is an increase of 2.2 times, and 58.7 thousand local residents, which is 2.5 times more.

According to Statistics Estonia, in May the most popular accommodation places for Latvian residents were in Riga, where 23% of guests stayed, in Jurmala – 9.4%, in Liepaja – 8.6%, in Kuldiga region – 4.8%, in Daugavpils – 3.4%, Sigulda in the region – 2.9%, in Ventspils – 2.7% and in Roja region – 2.6%.

In turn, the largest number of foreign guests was received in Riga – 83%, Liepaja – 3.8% and Jurmala – 3%.

In May of this year, most foreign guests were received from Lithuania (1.4 thousand), Germany (1.3 thousand), Russia (1.2 thousand), Estonia and Sweden (thousand), and the United Kingdom (0.7 thousand). , as well as from Poland and France (0.6 thousand).
