The hockey players of HC Slovan Bratislava managed to beat HK Spišská Nová Ves for the first time since October 3, 2021. The defending champion triumphed in the 27th round of the Tipos extraliga at home 4:3 when Brant Harris decided in the 54th minute . The Canadian forward achieved a 2+1 record in the matchup and is the most productive player in the league with 41 points.
Slovan led the early attack to victory when, in addition to Harris, Samuel Takáč scored two assists and Liam Pecararo also had an impact. “We need all formations to be involved. I hope it will be distributed more among the team and we can win even more. We wanted to manage this match, even though we knew that Spišská Nová Ves have a winning streak and play hockey well. We are happy with this triumph and it is very important for us” Takac said.
He also commented on the negative balance with Spišiak: “I don’t know, it’s hard to say why. It didn’t suit us on their ice and we played close games with them last season. I’m glad we broke and three points count.”
RÉWAY SCORED AGAIN
Martin Réway also scored in his third away game, when he assisted Matej Giľák’s goal. “They were better in the first period and were first everywhere. From the second half we changed our approach and I think we had the upper hand. The power plays decided, that Slovan are fantastic and they proved it.” said Réway, who came to Spišská Nová Ves from Freiburg, Germany: “I’m still getting used to the system, but I believe in a gradual improvement. However, I myself feel that we are still missing something. We are playing unpleasant hockey and if we played like in the second period, we can play anyone.”
The first goal of this season was scored by defender Dávid Romanaňák in Spišiak’s shirt, when he equalized at 2:2. “The coach wants us to support the second wave. I watched the videos of the matches and found that I didn’t. That’s why I thought about going. Nellis found me perfectly, I shot and it was a target.” Romanaňák said, feeling sorry for the first unsuccessful period: “The performance was good, but we played timidly at the beginning. I don’t know why we started like this, as we had five wins in a row and dominated the previous duels. We have the highest ambitions and plan to achieve something.”
THE COACH DIDN’T LIKE SOMETHING
Slovan made up for the defeat in Michaloviec (2:3), scored in full and remained in second place with a two-point loss to leader Zvolen. “We had a good start to the game. We wanted to be active in the second period, but we started falling behind and the opponent’s speed was a problem for us. We conceded both goals in these situations. Unfortunately, the opponent has equalized in the third period, but Harris takes it easy and scores the winning goal. In the end it was a team performance and we blocked the opponents’ shots. Credit to Spišská, because they are the fastest team in the league, but we found a way to handle this duel”. said home coach Ján Pardavý.
Spišská Nová Ves lost after five duels, in which he did not lose a single point, despite this he is in 5th place. “We didn’t start well at all and we couldn’t keep pace throughout the first period. From the second half we were a balanced opponent, even though Slovan had chances, just like us. A new experience for me, that after two penalty penalties, two minutes before the end of the commercial break. Another thing when a player admits he shot the puck from the backcourt over the post and the referee doesn’t react. I learned something new and I guess it won’t happen more”. said visiting coach Vlastimil Wojnar.
