An important church holiday! 10 big bans – 2024-10-19 19:57:00

On October 20, the church honors the memory of Artemius of Antioch

On October 20, the church honors the memory of Artemius of Antioch, who lived in the 4th century. He was the commander of Emperor Constantine the Great. After completing his service, Artemius left for Egypt. After Emperor Constantine came to power Julian the Apostate, who began to persecute the Christians. Artemius, although a former military leader, also fell under the wicked hand of the new ruler and spoke out against the atrocities, for which he was captured and tortured to renounce his faith. Saint Artemius steadfastly endured all the torments, but did not renounce Christianity. For this he was executed. The body of the martyr was secretly transported to Constantinople. A part of the saint’s relics is kept in the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, writes “Aktualno”.

Weather fortunes related to the holiday

Signs today show how soon winter and cold weather will begin:

* if the trees still have leaves, winter will begin in a month;

* if the weather is good – it will stay like this until November 10;

* if there is a pale moon – expect snow and frost in a few days;

* if crows crow and fly chaotically – snow will soon fall;

* if the hens fall asleep early – there will be frost.

It is believed that on this day it is good to prepare vegetables for the winter – then they will last until spring.

What not to do on October 20

On the Orthodox holiday of October 20, as on any other day, the church opposes quarrels, blasphemy, gossip, slander and condemnation, as well as laziness, envy, greed, revenge and despair. You should not refuse help to those who need it and ask you to help them.

Our ancestors believed that it is not good to have too much fun on this day. It is also not good to propose marriage and arrange a wedding – the marriage will be short.

What you can do on October 20
