As he said in a conversation with “Lentoy.ru” candidate of medical sciences, immunologist Nikolai Kryuchkov, one of the most dangerous consequences of coronavirus is an increased risk of developing heart attacks and strokes.
Kryuchkov emphasized that the evolution of the virus continues, and at the moment “eris” is the dominant strain, with “pyrol” on the horizon, which could begin to dominate by the end of November – early December.
“Omicron versions are characterized today by very high infectiousness. This could potentially, especially during the season and with low levels of herd immunity, lead to a very high morbidity rate. And the high incidence ensures a high number of victims of this infection,” he explained.
According to the specialist, those who have long COVID-19 (longcovid) experience an increased risk of developing cardiovascular disasters: strokes, heart attacks, and so on.
At the same time, Kryuchkov said that the long-term consequences of COVID-19 have not been studied to date, because long-term observation is necessary.
The doctor also warned about the danger of the virus for teenagers, especially boys.
“I’m now talking about possible neurodegenerative diseases of the central nervous system and testicular damage in boys. It is not yet clear how widespread this is, but there are suspicions of this kind,” the doctor added.
