An iconic building in Vasi was sold for $22 million to a gambling mogul.

The owner of an online betting company became the new owner of one of the largest buildings in the center of Sofia – the Telephone Palace. This information is confirmed by documents in the Property and Commercial Register, writes BGNES.

Georgi Papazki bought it for BGN 22 million at the end of last year from a company in liquidation owned by former gambling boss Vasil Bozhkov.

The telephone building became the property of Bozhkov in 2017. Then he bought it from Vivacom for BGN 33.8 million.

Bozhkov, who was known as a great collector of ancient art, wanted to turn it into a museum of his collection. However, these plans did not materialize after the prosecutor’s office started an investigation against him, and the businessman himself fled abroad. The antique collection was confiscated by the authorities.

The Telephone Palace was built in 1949 and is a cultural monument.
