Tinfoil is found in many households. Whether you use it to wrap food and store it in the refrigerator or for kids to snack on, so the food stays at the desired temperature for longer. It can also be used in cooking, if you do not have the lid at hand you can cover the pan with aluminum foil and put the meat in the oven. Thanks to the foil, the meat will not burn and will be wonderfully juicy. Some recipes also recommend cooking the meat directly in foil.
Tinfoil in the freezer
However, we have discovered a method of use, which is not that common and will surely surprise many. If you have an older freezer in your home that does not have the No Frost function, you need to defrost the freezer regularly. The No Frost function is effectively an antifreeze system. For freezing, dry cold air is used, which is evenly dispersed by a fan. Therefore, if no moisture forms in the freezer, there is nothing to freeze in the freezer and therefore no ice forms on the sides and front of the freezer.
But let’s go back to the freezers where the icing is made. This is where tinfoil can help.
Remove all food from the freezer, but also the drawers themselves, if they are removable. Defrost the freezer after emptying it. After defrosting, line the sides of the freezer with aluminum foil and carefully reposition the individual drawers. A layer of ice will form on the film, which you can easily replace and don’t have to go through the whole thawing process.
How to wrap food
You can also use aluminum foil when storing food in the freezer. In order for the food to retain a better and fresher taste even in longer storage conditions, it is advisable to wrap it in packaging materials that allow for storage without excess air. The foil, which you can adapt to the food during packaging, is therefore ideal. You can wrap fish, meat, vegetables, desserts and more. Or you can use vacuum bags for packaging. Don’t forget to label the plastic wrap or bag with a label that identifies the food you are storing so you can easily find it later.
And where to throw the used film? You can throw the tin in metal waste collection containers or take it to the collection depot
