an exhibition dedicated to Gustave Eiffel, a native of the city

Gustave Eiffel was born in Dijon (Côte-d’Or) in 1832. An exhibition is currently devoted to him, at the Despringles hotel. Her descendants discovered her this Saturday.

Gustave Eiffel died almost a century ago. But his name, his work and his aura have stood the test of time and are remembered by everyone.

The Despringles mansion, rue Monge in Dijon, hosts for a few days an exhibition dedicated to the famous engineer, born December 15, 1832 in the city-prefecture of Côte-d’Or.

This Saturday, October 9, the great-great-grandchildren of Gustave Eiffel made the trip to Dijon to discover this exhibition. Inexhaustible descendants when it comes to evoking the life and work of their ancestor.

“He didn’t have a lot of money, so he had to be more inventive. A bridge is iron, everyone buys iron at about the same price, so you have to put in less, or build it faster “, says Sylvain Yeatman-Eiffel.

This was the great strength of the engineer from Dijon. So much so that it was copied a lot. “You have both ignored works and wrongly attributed works. There is really a lot of progress on how to separate the true work of Gustave Eiffel from the fake works of Eiffel”, explains Myriam Larnaudie-Eiffel, president of the association of the descendants of Gustave Eiffel.

Little is known of the intimate man. His descendants have only a few old memories of their grandparents. And the movie Eiffel which leaves Wednesday at the cinema, with in particular Romain Duris, will say no more. It is a fiction it seems very romanticized.

Exhibition “Le Dijonnais Gustave Eiffel”, at the Despringles hotel in Dijon, 47 rue Monge. Free access Friday 8, Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 October from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
