An evening of festive songs and a documentary short film is expected on LTV

Celebrating the centenary of Imants and Gido Kokari, on Monday, August 16, a festive song evening “BrāliBrāli” will be shown on the renewed Mežaparks Grand Stage, followed by the documentary short film “Brāļi Kokari”.

On the evening of the festive songs, compositions close to the Kokari brothers were sung by the Riga Chamber Choir “Ave Sol” and the Latvian Conductors’ Choir conducted by the chief conductors. Both Jāzeps Vītols and Ausekls “Castle of Light” and this year’s jubilee Imants Kalniņš “Prayer” will be performed by Knut Skujenieks. The final part of the concert will feature Arturs Muscats and Alexander Chuck’s “Riga”. Composers Arturs Maskats, Zigmars Liepiņš and Raimonds Tiguls will also take part in their compositions.

The creative group of the concert includes conductors Romāns Vanags, Mārtiņš Klišāns and Ints Teterovskis, director Juris Jonelis, as well as a group of instrumentalists led by Kristaps Krievkalns.

The television broadcast of the Song Evening will be produced by the editorial office of LTV Kultūras broadcasts, directed by Zita Kaminska: “For Latvian Television and myself, this will be a return to Mežaparks stage, I am glad that by honoring the Kokars brothers, we will be able to feel again in the concert and pass on the power of choral music to the audience. We always want the audience to receive the same emotional fulfillment at home as those who attend the concert in person. ”

Immediately after the concert at 22.40 LTV1 and REplay.lv will feature director Juris Podnieks’ short documentary “Brothers Kokari” (1978) – a story about the brothers Kokari, which includes their close-ups, highlighting their characters, passions, ambitions, talents and sense of humor. The film uses strong visual metaphors that reinforce the main idea of the film – with a fanatical love of music and selfless work from the difficulties of a poor childhood, the Kokari brothers were able to rise to the top of world music.

The evening of festive songs “BrāliBrāli” will be broadcast live on August 14 at 21.00 on the public media portal LSM.lv. Television broadcast – on August 16 at 20.40 LTV1 and REplay.lv.
