Emmanuelle Pierre-Marie, mayor of the 12th arrondissement of Paris, is at the center of a controversy after a round trip to New York for Christmas. She defended herself by emphasizing the exceptional nature of the trip. But internet users were quick to report that her Instagram account seems to indicate otherwise.
When public affairs and social networks don’t mix… The environmentalist mayor of the 12th arrondissement of Paris, Emmanuelle Pierre-Marie, known for her legitimate positions on the climate emergency and against pollution emitted by cars, found herself at the center of a controversy which it would have done well without. And that she could have avoided.
During the Christmas holidays, the chosen one had to fly to join her daughter in New York and her publications on social networks angered many of her opponents. Between means of transport and other Christmas lights, the elected Parisian who does not hesitate to launch the alert on the climate emergency throughout the year, has attracted the ire of Internet users.
Our earth is burning and the #weather it is conspicuously absent from current debates. Voting takes place on April 10 @yjadot for an ecological republic, let’s vote for our future, for our youth. #Jadot2022 #ClimateMarch #Search for pic.twitter.com/2FoOeD1zwu

Faced with the many reactions, Emmanuelle Pierre-Marie decided to defend herself: “I am mayor, mother and grandmother. I spend Christmas as a family with my daughter and grandchildren who now live in New York. Sure my carbon footprint is bad but a necessity to get there. It’s my first time in the United States.”
I am mayor, mother and grandmother. I spend Christmas with my family with my daughter and grandchildren who now live in New York. Certainly my carbon footprint is negative but a necessity to get there. This is my first time in the US. Happy end of the year to you.

But many Internet users have pointed out the contradiction between the policy pursued by the ecologist in Paris and his many trips by plane in recent years.
Others have pointed to the carbon footprint of his travels. For the simple trip to New York and according to the calculation method of the foundation Happy Planetthis equates to 3.15 tonnes of CO2 for the round trip to the US.

Another contradiction of the chosen Parisian: the many photos of Christmas trees and lights shared on her Instagram account, compared to the tree she had installed in her neighborhood in Paris.
Surprising contrast the horrendous tree “offered” by @Mairie12Paris to the inhabitants
While he is mayor @EPierreMarie @EELV took the plane to go to #NYC enjoy a beautiful traditional Christmas tree
