An energy emergency has been declared in Moldova

Moldovan Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilica on Friday announced the declaration of a state of energy emergency in the country due to natural gas shortage.

She said that a state of emergency is being imposed due to gas shortages and a drop in pressure in the country’s gas system.

A government meeting will be convened on Friday, after which the deputy prime minister will go to parliament to ask for a state of emergency to “give the government the tools to manage the energy crisis,” Gavrilica said.

On October 13, the Moldovan government announced a state of energy readiness due to gas shortages and began implementing gas-saving measures in the country. A number of companies in the energy complex, including thermal power plants, have partially switched to heavy fuel oil or coal.

Earlier, Moldovgaz called on consumers to save gas and switch to another fuel if possible.

Moldova and Russia’s state-owned natural gas company Gazprom have so far not agreed to extend the gas contract, which expired on September 30. In this situation, the parties decided to extend the contract for one month under the current conditions.

But in October, Moldova’s gas price is $ 790 per 1,000 cubic meters, up from $ 550 in September. In addition, the agreement provides for the supply of only 65% of Moldova’s gas needs.
