The gondola lift transports tourists in 20 minutes from the famous town of Stresa near Lake Maggiore to Mount Motarone, at an altitude of more than 1,400 meters, according to Reuters.
“A serious accident at the Stresa-Motarone gondola lift. Alpine and other rescue teams have been sent to the scene. Two helicopters and ambulances are also involved,” the national alpine rescue service said on Twitter.
According to ANSA, there were 11 people in the cabin, and two children were taken by helicopter to a hospital in the city of Turin.
