An elected representative from Avrillé wants to declare war on rats – Angers Info

Florian Santinho, leader of the Ensemble Avrillé minority

For several weeks, Avrillé has been facing a significant proliferation of rats in the town, according to the citizens. Districts Bois du Roy, Centre-Ville, Val d’Or, Adéziere, Plateau Mayenne, Raffoux… many residents have recently come across rats in front of their homes, in their gardens or sometimes even in their homes. Publications on social networks are multiplying to share this observation and several residents have already called on the town hall of Avrillé, no communication from the community for the moment.

Florian Santinho, leader of the Ensemble Avrillé minority, is concerned about this massive proliferation of rats in the streets of Avrillé: The rat carries many diseases for humans and domestic animals, and a single rat can have up to 55 pups in a year, not to mention that with climate change, rats make an additional litter per year. It can be estimated today that there are approximately 22,500 rats in the town of Avrillé (1.5 rats per inhabitant). Their visible presence is worrying because they are no longer afraid of human activity and will therefore behave more and more invasively and intrusively with humans. It is therefore urgent that the city and the elected officials mobilize on this subject by reminding, through an awareness campaign among Avrillais, the essential rules such as the importance of not throwing your waste on the public highway, of putting your waste in bins rather than in bags in the open air, to have composters away from homes and ideally closed, but also not to leave food outside and in parks. Alongside this awareness campaign, it will be necessary to have a more offensive approach by launching a rat control plan throughout the city in order to break the cycle of reproduction of the pest. »

The elected official of the opposition, with his minority group, would have liked to propose this action plan to the municipal council, “Unfortunately, the last council having taken place on June 2 and the next one taking place on September 22 at the earliest, it has been 4 months without a municipal council, which gives the rodent time to increase in number. The municipal majority must therefore take up this subject now, without further delay, at the risk otherwise that Avrillé will experience the same problem as Paris. »
