The body of an elderly woman was found on February 9 in the town of Esperanza, in the province of Villa Clara, after she was reported missing a few days before.
According to the profile of the Gender Observatory of the magazine Alas Tensas (OGAT), the body was found in a state of decomposition in a sugar mill, so they asked the community for help to gather information about the case.
“Information is sought about a woman found, on February 9, dead and in a state of decomposition in a sugar mill in Esperanza, Villa Clara. The alert is extended to Encrucijada, since the woman could be a resident of that place and a psychiatrist, without family members or dependents,” the publication reads.

As a result, one of the many Facebook profiles linked to the Ministry of the Interior shared more details, this in an attempt to minimize the situation. The response from the profile Alejandro Noticias Cuba assures that the 78-year-old woman would have died of natural causes due to her advanced age.
As “proof” of this, the publication claims that the body was found with all his belongings, “including money”, so they ruled out that it could have been an assault that went wrong.
Likewise, although the body was found in a state of decomposition, the profile ensures that it did not show signs of violence, so it was not a murder either.
According to this post shared on Facebook, the victim’s family was informed of the results of the forensic authorities, and they were “satisfied” with them.
This profile ensures that the brother of the deceased reported that she had left for a terminal bound for her residence in Encrucijada, but appears to have become disoriented along the way.
An alleged witness told the police that he saw the old woman walking alone along the central highway towards the town, where she was eventually found dead. Other neighbors of the woman assured the aforementioned official profile that the elderly woman suffered from nervous problems, which could have caused her disorientation.
In turn, they indicated that they had been searching for her since her disappearance was reported, but that they were unsuccessful. It is important to note that the official profile did not reveal the identity of the elderly woman or the date on which she was reported missing.
This publication was written in response to a version given by the independent press, so it was emphasized that it had not been a femicide, however, the original note never mentioned this, limiting itself to saying only that the discovery had been denounced by independent feminist platforms.
It seems that the order given to these pro-government profiles is to deny any crime of this nature, since the Island has always had the priority of taking care of its image before the international community for fear of losing potential tourists.
