Britain’s Conservative Party has named Egyptian billionaire Mohamed Mansour, the former transport minister, as one of its key fundraisers ahead of the upcoming elections, according to Britain’s Guardian newspaper.
A report in the British newspaper says the British prime minister, Rishi Sunak, has announced Muhammad Mansour will be the Conservative Party’s first treasurer at a reception for a group of donors on Monday evening.
According to the paper, Mansour Unatrac donated more than £600,000 to the ceremony, and was given a role on the government’s investment advisory board last year, as founder of his family’s investment firm, Man Capital.
Mohamed Mansour served as Transport Minister from 2006 to 2009 in the government of former President Mohamed Hosni Mubarak.
According to the newspaper, the Conservative Party has repeatedly declined to confirm Mansour’s role, however, party sources confirmed he has a separate role as supreme treasurer, a job which will include fundraising ahead of the upcoming general election.
The role of the Tory treasurer has proved controversial in recent years, with nine of them receiving peerages, according to the Guardian.
Confirming his appointment, Mansoor said, It is a great honor and privilege to be appointed Conservative Party treasurer and a member of the party treasurer team.
The Conservative Party, on the other hand, did not comment on the newspaper article.
Mohamed Mansour oversees the massive Mansour family group, which was founded by his father, Lotfi Mansour, in 1952 and has 60,000 employees.
Mansour founded General Motors Agencies in Egypt in 1975; To become one of the largest distributors of his cars in the world.
