The arrest of the owner of a jewelery company in Egypt on charges of trading in contraband diamonds, precious stones and gold jewelery has revealed a new surprise, namely the presence of another more mysterious person with the defendant.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the second defendant was an Egyptian national who impersonated a Lebanese person for 10 years and traveled to approximately 100 countries, indicating that he worked in the trade of gold and precious jewels, smuggling from Egypt to overseas and vice versa . He also clarified that the accused worked for ten years in the smuggling of diamond-encrusted jewels, and promoted among gold traders that he is a Lebanese national and has called himself the “golden whale”.

The defendant confessed before the security services that he was trading gold between Egypt and Lebanon, and it was found that he had impersonated a Lebanese to escape the eyes of the security services when entering and leaving Cairo airport.

The investigation also revealed that the defendant bought an apartment in Heliopolis, Cairo to run his business selling gemstones for dollars, and stored a large amount of contraband gemstones and artifacts in his company to evade employees of regulatory authorities.
