An Egyptian court sentences a Syrian artist to two years in prison … and this is why!

On Monday, an Egyptian court sentenced the Syrian artist, Samo Zain, whose original name is (Osama Muhammad Al-Abras), to two years in prison with forced labor.

The Tax Evasion Misdemeanors Court has revealed that the owner of “Karby Leah” has evaded the payment of Egyptian pounds 1,397,393, which is the value of the fine as a similar response to the tax imposed, according to petition no. 135 of 2022, tax evasion offenses.

The court also established a bail of Egyptian pounds 100,000 ($ 5,265) for the suspension of the execution, according to local media.

The Egyptian prosecutor had accused the artist of tax evasion during his artistic relationships for the period between 2014 and 2017.

He was also accused of “avoiding the payment of taxes on other transactions, including the relationship with some hotels and restaurants in Egypt”.
