“Concrete City, “Games of Will” in Popski Beach”. A photo with this title on the social network Facebook caused lively discussions. The shot captured a moment from the show, which is currently being filmed on this very beach in Tsarevo.

Popski beach is located in the northernmost part of the seaside town. The sand is fine and soft. However, the photo also shows the so-called Ghost Town, also known as Dead Town.

The story:

The “ghost town” of the Bulgarian Black Sea coast – that’s how the abandoned construction of the Costa del Croco complex near Tsarevo is known. In the concrete remains are buried millions of levs of future owners of properties by the sea, as well as the dreams of the owners of the land, who will neither receive a profit from it, nor can they use it.

The construction of the “Costa del Croco” complex began in 2007. The complex is the size of a small city, as its capacity is for 2,500 people. It was planned to have a five-star hotel, residential and commercial complexes, a business center, an administrative building, a hospital and others, with a total built-up area of over 60,000 square meters.

The investor is the company operating with Russian capital “Laudis Holding Group”, which promised to invest more than 60 million euros in the complex. It buys private properties of 6-7 owners for compensation.

The sunset of “Costa del Croco” occurred not only because of the obligations of the developer to the financing bank and the builder during the years of the vacation property crisis, but also because of problems with the investor himself. The then owner of “Laudis” Konstantin Tsiganov was arrested in 2010, when DANS issued an order for his expulsion as dangerous for national security. He was named as the leader of the Uralmash criminal group and wanted since 2005 by Interpol.

Owners can neither sell nor use their land.
