And they solved a lot of the homeowner’s problems.

“The electricity has run out”
In some regions of Russia, the deterioration of electrical equipment is so high that interruptions occur several times a day (and it happens that they wear mass character). The result for the consumer is burnt-out household appliances, disruption of plans, and if you work remotely, loss of access to the necessary materials “here and now.”
Homeowners have a logical request for an environmentally friendly and ergonomic way to protect themselves from such problems. One possible solution is an energy storage device. We installed a VOLTS drive in a two-story country house in the Leningrad region. First things first.
Compact energy storage
Say goodbye to the generator
The client approached us with a request: to forget about interruptions forever and ensure autonomy at home. Previously, he used a fuel generator – a rather noisy, fire-hazardous thing that emits carbon monoxide. That experience ended sadly – the exhaust pipe broke and the room was covered in soot. I had to do cosmetic repairs and at the same time look for a solution to the problem with electricity.
After discussing the optimal solution, we installed seven solar panels for the customer and VOLTS energy storage device. The total power of the solar station is 2100 W. A storage device with a capacity of 8 kWh was installed in the hallway of the house – its size can be compared to a classic wall painting. VOLTS, in fact, is a constructor that can be supplemented at your discretion – for example, now the client lacks two more modules of 2 kWh, so as not to pay for electricity at the daytime tariff from 21:00 to 23:00, since the night tariff twice cheaper.
Operating experience
Our client’s household wanted to avoid the need to independently turn on/off the entire system during his absence and manually monitor the parameters to avoid problems. A mobile application came into place, through which the family manages everything remotely – updates the settings of solar panels, monitors electricity consumption statistics and tracks the amount of money saved.
In summer from 5:00 to 21:00 our client uses solar energy, accordingly electricity storage Charges only from solar panels. And although in autumn and winter the generation level decreases by about three times, the customer continues to use microgeneration for home needs, just not to its full extent.
The solar panels were installed at an angle of 60 degrees in front of the house’s facade: our calculations showed that this is how maximum solar efficiency would be achieved. The daily generation of electricity at home is approximately 11-13 kWh. If the owners are away and the system continues to accumulate, there remains unspent energy. It is primarily affected by the power of devices connected to the network. Without active use of electricity per day, the balance is 1-2 kW.
There is also an opportunity to save: although the homeowner now continues to purchase electricity from the network, he does this mainly at a nightly rate, saving electricity using drive and spends in the first half of the day.
Energy exchange (or additional capabilities)
Now in Russia, using an electricity storage device, you can sell the remaining electricity back to the grid. However, there is no particular point in this – the tariffs are meager. At the same time, the exchange of electricity is becoming a global trend. The concept of “microgrid” is gradually gaining momentum – the exchange of solar or wind electricity with neighbors in conditions of complete absence of power grids. To do this, you need to lay a separate electrical wire between the houses, which will take into account how much energy each participant in the system gave and received.
For now, microgrids are one of the options for the future, and everything is moving towards a hybrid format. For example, solar stations are already being integrated into traditional networks and provide autonomy for consumers who simultaneously exchange electricity with their neighbors. Perhaps in the future microgrids will be used in remote regions of the country: in the north, where it is unprofitable to run power grids. Wait and see.
