The president of PGNiG resigned shortly after The Office of Competition and Consumer Protection issued a conditional consent to the takeover of PGNiG by Orlen.
The condition imposed on the companies by UOKiK is sale of Gas Storage Poland sp. z oo and conclusion of a contract with the new owner of GSP for at least 10 years to perform the duties of a gas fuel storage system operator combined companies.

Currently, GSP is the operator of the gas fuel storage system in storage facilities owned by PGNiG.
The so-called Orlen submitted the application constituting a notification of the intention of concentration in October 2021. It was an element of the ongoing merger control proceedings initiated by PKN Orlen. In May 2021, PKN Orlen submitted an application to the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection to take over PGNiG. Two weeks later, the President of UOKiK referred the proceedings to the second stage.

After the announcement of the conditional approval, the president of Orlen announced that the merger of the two state-owned companies will take place by the end of 2022. – We did not wait for this decision with folded hands. At the same time, we were working on preparing the entire process from the organizational and technical side. As a result, PKN Orlen will merge with PGNiG by the end of 2022 – he said.
