An average of 1,425 new infections per day, 550 people in …

The number of infections and hospital admissions continues to rise. The number of deaths is rising slightly. Especially in Brussels, the number of infections and admissions peaks

In the period from 14 to 20 September, an average of 1,425 new infections were diagnosed every day. That is an increase of 62 percent compared to a week earlier. This is how the data on the online dashboard of the Sciensano health institute shows on Thursday morning.

This brings the incidence to 140 infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14-day period, or an increase of 138 percent. The number of new hospital admissions also increased by 21.7 percent to an average of 57 per day, between 16 and 22 September. A total of 550 people with covid-19 are now in hospital. 95 of them are in intensive care and 52 of them need to be ventilated.

One in three new admissions takes place in the Brussels Region. Brussels is also at the forefront of new confirmed cases. It concerns 2,166 cases in the week of September 14 to 20. In Antwerp, 1,799 positive tests were counted in that week, 1,395 in Liège. These are the three regions where the coronavirus strikes the fastest and most severely. Hainaut, Flemish Brabant and East Flanders will follow.

The number of deaths from the disease rose slightly to an average of 3.7 in the period from 14 to 20 December. 9,959 people in our country have died from covid-19 so far.
