An avalanche on the Austrian mountain Lackenspitze killed three people

A large avalanche about 200 meters wide and about 500 meters long hit an eleven-member expedition around 13.45 at an altitude of about 2400 meters above sea level. Part of the expedition buried up to 4.5 meters deep. Two of its members were not excavated until after their deaths. The third, with serious injuries, was transported by helicopter to a hospital in Klagenfurt, where he succumbed to them. All victims were under 30 years old.
