Three people were dragged away and partially buried by an avalanche on Malyovitsa.
This was announced by the chairman of the Bulgarian Association for Freestyle and Extreme Skiing Momchil Panayotov on the organization’s Facebook page.
“Attention, serious risk of avalanches! Yesterday’s warning turned out to be quite true – I just found out about an avalanche with three dragged and partially buried people on Malyovitsa! Remote trigger (remote activation), which is a probable sign of a weak layer under the snow board! The exhibition is entirely western, but with a northern component! According to people who have inspected the area, “everything seems loaded,” he wrote.
“There was a similar avalanche yesterday, fortunately without people being dragged. The problem probably exists in many other places in Rila! My advice is to be very careful and be conservative when choosing a route for the next few days, especially considering the crisp snow that “hides” the danger and the expected good weather! The mountain is there, the steep descents will not escape, please do not take risks! Thank you for sharing the information! ”, Warned Momchil Panayotov.
Later, the user Lyubomir Gadzhev announced on the page that the three buried had managed to dig themselves.
He also posted photos of the avalanche site, saying it was caused by four skiers climbing uphill. “All the slopes in the valley are loaded with some 25-30 cm of winding, which has an extremely bad connection with the snow under it. Be very careful and conservative in choosing a line,” Gadzhev warned.
