An audio performance of Nora Iksten’s novel “The Lesson of the Virgin” will be played on Latvian Radio / Article

The production of “Maiden’s Learning” will be broadcast on Latvian Radio 1 in 6 programs. The premiere is expected on the evening of November 2 at 10:05 p.m., and the broadcasts will be broadcast every weekday evening until November 9.

The Teaching of the Virgin (2001) is a sharp story of three generations of women – Ārija, Astrida and Asnāte – about the turn of the century in Latvia, changes of power, lusts and dreams, about belonging and returning to the roots.

When I wrote The Teaching of the Virgin, I thought of light, eternity, love, and kindness. My heart is glad that it was during this fragile good and evil fight that the Liepāja Theater and Karīna Tatarinova noticed it again, creating a radio reading “For the Teaching of the Virgin”. Quiet and bright thank you, ”said Nora Ikstena about the cooperation.

“Broadcasts seem to me to be even more effective than a show or a movie,” Karina Tatarinova replied to the question of why she turned to radio theater. “Visual information is digested very quickly and easily, because it is the primary thing a person has learned to perceive. By sight. Audio or what you hear – synthesis is already working there. And the most unique thing – that picture will still be yours alone. Because it is your experience, it is what you have seen, felt, lived together, it resonates with you only as it can resonate with you. So you’re a co-author as a listener, and that’s fantastic. ”

This time the guest artists also collaborated with the actors of Liepāja Theater, and actors in this Liepāja Radio Theater participate – Agnija Dreimane, Madara Botmane, Inese Kučinska, Leons Leščinskis, Sandis Väljais, Anita Kvāla, Signe Dancīte, Regnārs Vaivars, Kaspars Kārk , Jorens Steinhauer, Anda Albuže, Laura Jeruma, Inga Siliņa, Mārtiņš Kalita, Kārlis Dreiblats; record director Karina Tatarinova also participates as an actress herself. The soundtrack for the recording was created by Jānis Straume, who also wrote the original music for the work.

The recording was made in the recording studio of Liepāja Secondary School of Music, Art and Design, while the whole work process was immortalized in photographs by Armands Kaušelis.

“Liepaja Radio Theater”

In 2020, at the beginning of the pandemic, Liepāja Theater actress Karīna Tatarinova had an idea to create “Liepāja Radio Theater”, updating and making the works of several Latvian authors resound in the voices of Liepāja Theater actors. Since then, the works of Pauls Bankovskis, Jana Egle, Sabīne Košeļeva, Jānis Joņevs and other authors have been recorded. Tatarinova has received the 2020 Liepaja Culture Award for her work so far.
