An asteroid the size of a building passes near Earth, NASA expects 4 more objects

According to international reports, several scientists from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), passed the Center for Near Object Studies (CNEOS), asteroid “2008 AG33” near Earth on Thursday, April 28.

Initially, CNEOS, the department responsible for characterizing the orbits of all objects close to the planet, was not interested in approaching the asteroid, but at the high speed at which it would move.

The scientists determined that the rocky body, which has a diameter of 350 to 780 meters, was moving at speeds of 10 million and 390,000 kilometers per second, making it a “potentially hazardous” category. However, NASA says that the asteroid traveled a great distance to collide with Earth.

“2008 AG33” is also known as a planet, another name given to this type of celestial body and its classification has been established as “Apollo”, because this asteroid is the closest to Earth and the one that crosses its orbit.

Other asteroids will pass close to Earth

According to Space Place, a website specializing in astronomy publishing and NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, they say that from Thursday, April 28 to Monday, May 2, four smaller asteroids will approach Earth “2008 AG33”.

Other asteroids that will pass Earth have been identified as “2022 HX1”, “2022 HS”, “2017 XO2” and “2022 HA2”.
