The caravan against the Government of Pedro Sánchez called this Saturday in several Spanish cities by Vox also included, in Barcelona, a homophobic attack. A video, which has gone viral on Twitter, shows the moment when one of the participants in the demonstration frantically yells at a passer-by who displays a rainbow flag as cars pass to the Interior Department of the Generalitat and then to the Government delegation. “Baja fag, low son of a bitch,” is heard on the video.
The incident occurred this Saturday in the traditional neighborhood of La Dreta de L’Eixample, at the confluence of the streets of Valencia and Bailèn. The caravan, which had left the Plaza de Francesc Macià at around 12:30 p.m., had taken Avenida Diagonal and turned through Bailèn, in order to reach the headquarters of Interior. The video does not show the entire scene, but you can see how a man, on the roof of a car, yells at another named David, who shows the LGBT flag as cars pass by and amid the noise of the horns.
“Go down, you fagot, you son of a bitch,” shouts the man, who wears polo and jeans. David’s companion, presumably the one who records the action, asks him to lower the flag in the face of the tension of the moment. The video ends when the attacker, who is screaming frantically, gets off the roof of the car. The Catalan law against homophobia typifies this type of assault with fines.
