Neglecting
Where the late doctor wrote on his Facebook account on January 18: “One of the causes of heart failure and sudden death is that we are very careless with regard to our health and the maintenance of our bodies.”
According to studies, heart attacks and problems related to heart diseases are more common in the morning hours during the winter season.
The chances of heart attacks also increase in the winter season, when the heart is forced to make a greater effort to pump the same amount of blood as a result of high blood pressure and narrowing of blood vessels.
Heart health and winter
According to Dr Hisham Ahmed, Consultant Cardiologist at Amrita Hospital, Kochi, the temperature outside has an inverse relationship with blood pressure.
He says: “The heart has to work harder to pump the same amount of blood during the winter because of the high blood pressure. Because our blood vessels are narrow, in order to maintain a stable body temperature, this increases blood flow to the body. As a result, blood flow to the skin and extremities further away from the heart is decreased.”
Thus, cold weather increases the possibility of a fatal blood clot forming inside the body.
Dr Ahmed told indiatoday: “Recent evidence suggests that this is usually caused by a rise in blood pressure in the morning. Additionally, there is an imbalance of sympathetic hormones in the morning, which increases the risk.”
risk factors
Due to hormonal changes, there is a rise in the levels of clotting factors, especially fibrinogen. In winter, the sympathetic nervous system causes blood vessels to constrict, and the body’s regulatory system maintains blood pressure and heart rate. In addition, seizures can occur in the winter from rupture of plaques due to high blood.
In fact, the chances of the problem occurring increase for people who are more likely to have a heart attack due to feeling lethargic in the winter and being overweight. People even end up eating more food, which leads to weight and cholesterol gain.
Another factor affecting the heart is low exposure to vitamin D. Numerous studies have shown the relationship between low vitamin D levels and blood vessel health. Low vitamin D intake is directly linked to heart problems.
