an anti-Semitic delivery man refuses the race, complaints filed

Thursday, January 7, a delivery man named Deliveroo came to a kosher restaurant in Strasbourg. “He asked what the restaurant’s specialty is. When told about Israeli cuisine, he replied, “I don’t serve Jews,” and he handed his cell phone, saying, “Here it is, it’s canceled,” Mr.e Raphaël Nisand. The same scene took place a few moments later in another kosher restaurant, without it being known for the moment if it is the same delivery man.

Following the facts, the two restaurateurs filed a complaint Friday morning and warned the Israelite consistory. After Shabbat, a new complaint was made on Sunday by Mr.e Nisand, on behalf of the National Office for Vigilance Against Antisemitism (BNVCA), for discrimination in offering a good or service on the basis of ethnicity, race or religion against Deliveroo and the delivery men. “It is now at the behest of the police authorities and the prosecutor”, notes Me Nisand. An investigation has been opened.

All this overwhelms the lawyer: “The only means of subsistence for restaurants nowadays is click and collect and therefore you have to go through delivery people. And it’s worrying to know that delivery people have this type of reaction for restaurateurs as for customers. It reminds of dark hours in history. It’s branding and boycott! All the more so as here, we go from Israel to the Jews ”, from anti-Zionism to anti-Semitism.

“It’s not new,” sighs a Deliveroo delivery man contacted last night before his tour. It evokes a story between a restaurateur and a delivery man last year. “But that was it. “On the other hand, believes this delivery man,” restaurant owners can only file a complaint against the delivery person (s); Deliveroo is not responsible because it is not an employer ”. The BNVCA nonetheless demands “that the leaders of Deliveroo publish a charter intended for their staff, prohibiting boycott and discrimination”.
