An Ankou: A Roguelike Journey Through 19th-Century Brittany

French studio Alkemi Games (creators of Foretales) have announced that they will be releasing their next game, An Ankou, in Early Access on Steam on August 17th. It’s a roguelike set in 19th-century Brittany, in which we’ll play “Anku,” servant of death and last of the year, according to a legend from French folklore.

Reborn as one of the first three playable classes (Soldier, Apothecary or Nun), we will have to return to the world of the living, reincarnate souls and guide them to their final rest, while facing hordes of demons, creating equipment and Gather resources. If El Ankur fails, he will respawn to try again.

An Ankou features a handcrafted open world full of random encounters and challenging bosses, offering precise combat and excellent replayability, all wrapped in a rather compelling art style. It will be sold at a price of 4.99 euros. The studio also revealed a roadmap for future content, starting with the first patch and an additional class this August, the “Korrigan’s gold” system, which will allow players to loot gold from enemies in September and Introducing a third additional class, the nun. Updates will be released every two weeks until the full release.
