Animal print, especially the spotted one, is back in fashion, or perhaps it never disappeared. Appeared for the first time on the catwalk on 12 February 1947, the day on which Christian Dior he had his first three animalier garments paraded on the catwalks and has never stopped conquering fashion victims. Many divas who in the following years were fascinated by this print, including Marilyn Monroe who wore an animalier cape in the film ‘Gentlemen Prefer Blondes’ (1953). In the mid-60s, animalier also entered the men’s wardrobe. In the following decade we find it in a glam-rock version: the spotted prints become bolder. Today, we find it on the catwalk and in street style especially in its original version: in shades of brown, both for clothes and accessories.
Gaja Banchelli, who very often uses animal prints in her bag collections, describes it as: “A print that never goes unnoticed, every woman is tempted to wear it, regardless of her personal taste she will find a way to match it based on the its style, bringing back to life the nostalgic 90s and the determination of the female world.” And the Felisi fashion team also confirms the trend: “The animal print is now in everyday use, cleared over the years, it has become the protagonist of our looks at all ages and for all occasions. We offer it in a finished nylon collection in black and dark brown cowhide leather, to make it light and fun, giving a touch of color to both the accessories and the travel line. It is worn like a contemporary jewel that breaks up the colors of everyday life.”
Suggestions
We advise not to overdo the look if you opt for this print: the risk of an effect different from the desired one is just around the corner. Green light for dresses, trousers, jackets, sweaters, bags, shoes and, given the season, even hats and bodysuits. How to combine it? Valeria Damato, stylist and entrepreneur, gives us a suggestion in this regard: “The animal print is not a fantasy but the right way to give determination to the thoughts and the body. I like to combine the brown printed animalier with a touch of fuchsia, for example shoes”.
