An animal rescued from a car engine struggles to survive.

Sometimes animals get into really sticky situations and it takes kind-hearted humans to save them.

This is the case of a poor cat who found himself stuck in a most unexpected place. Even though it wasn’t easy, a team of rescuers stopped at nothing to save this cat and give her a second chance at life.

In 2020, the Arizona Humane Society received an urgent call about a Maine Coon that got stuck in a car engine in Phoenix.

The cat was terrified and screaming in pain. And even for an animal rescue group, it was clear that this would be no ordinary job.

“I have never had such a complicated rescue. I’ve never had one so intense.” remember PAPA Field Operations Supervisor Ruthie Jesus in a video. “Indeed, I have never known such a strong moment of fear and panic”.

Wedged between two metal plates

To complicate matters, the flesh of the cat’s abdomen was wedged between two metal plates. After trying to reassure the cat that help was coming, Ruthie called for backup and one of her colleagues was able to perform surgery on the spot to free him.

The cat wasn’t out of the woods yet. X-rays revealed he had ingested a fuel injection cap from the vehicle, as well as electrical wires. Vets performed three surgeries to remove the car parts from his stomach.

It was a long ordeal for this poor animal, but he is now better, much to the relief of his rescuers.

“I think once the rescue was over and I knew the cat was going to be safe, that her life was safe, I felt very emotional,” Ruthie said.

As it was around Christmas time, the cat was nicknamed Cindy Lou Who, after the character from ” How the Grinch Stole Christmas« .

Fortunately, Cindy Lou recovered. And, after a few rehabilitation sessions, the cat was impatient for its next adventure: to find its permanent home.

Cindy Lou was offered for adoption

“Those interested in adopting Cindy Lou Who are invited to visit the site azhumane.org/adopt to make an appointment with her,” AHS said in a statement to People Magazine.

“She’s quite shy and it will take time for her to warm up after what she’s been through. However, she will be a wonderful addition to any family.

In January 2021, the animal shelter revealed some very good news. Indeed, Cindy Lou had been adopted and had found a loving home!

Thank you to everyone who helped save Cindy Lou Who. It hasn’t been easy, but we’re glad this cat is safe.
