DRAFT – The driver of an Oldsmobile Toronado went straight through a roundabout on the Folgeralaan in Drachten on Saturday night. The man got lost a little later on the bike path on the road.
Local people saw the man getting out and looking at his car. He then advanced with a flat base in the direction of Drachtstercompagnie.
‘The police didn’t want to come’
Although the police were immediately informed, no one came to the scene. “The police were called immediately but they refused to come because there were no injuries,” Nicolaas Smit said on Facebook. Some car parts on the roundabout were silent witnesses at night.
Very damaged
The classic American car in which the man was driving was found on Sunday at the Noorderend. The man may continue on foot to his final destination. The car was badly damaged and had a flat tire.
Cars drive way too fast
Local residents say they hope the town can impose speed limits on the roundabout. Accidents happen regularly on or near the roundabout. “On the Folgeralaan, people regularly drive faster than 90 km/h, where the speed limit is 50. Even between the Folgeren roundabout and the Waterlelie roundabout.” said Smith.
